Fleas multiply fast. One or two hitchhikers on your dog after a walk through Elmwood Park, and within weeks you’ve got thousands embedded in your carpet, furniture, and bedding. Omaha’s warm, humid summers create perfect breeding conditions — and once fleas establish themselves indoors, over-the-counter sprays and flea bombs rarely cut it.

Miller Pest Solutions has been eliminating flea infestations across the Omaha metro since 2001. We don’t guess. We identify the scope of the problem, treat it at every life stage, and make sure they’re gone.

Signs of a Flea Infestation

Fleas are tiny — about 1/8 inch — but the evidence they leave behind isn’t subtle once the population builds. Here’s what to watch for:

  • Pets scratching excessively. Constant biting, licking, or chewing at the skin — especially around the tail, belly, and neck. Some animals develop flea allergy dermatitis, which causes hair loss and hot spots.
  • Flea dirt on pet bedding. Those small black specks that look like ground pepper? That’s flea feces. Dampen a white paper towel and press the specks into it — if they turn reddish-brown, it’s digested blood. Fleas confirmed.
  • Bites on your ankles and lower legs. Fleas jump from carpet level. You’ll notice small, red, itchy welts clustered around your feet and ankles, often in a line or group.
  • Seeing fleas jump. If you spot tiny dark insects leaping off your pet or across light-colored surfaces, the infestation is well established. Adult fleas only represent about 5% of the total population — eggs, larvae, and pupae make up the rest.
  • White sock test. Walk through your home in white socks. If fleas are present, you’ll see tiny dark specks clinging to the fabric within minutes.

Why Fleas Are Common in Omaha

Nebraska’s continental climate gives us cold winters, but fleas thrive in Omaha’s warm months — typically May through October. High humidity along the Missouri River corridor creates ideal conditions for flea eggs and larvae to develop in shaded outdoor areas, mulch beds, and tall grass.

Omaha’s abundance of wildlife doesn’t help. Raccoons, opossums, squirrels, and feral cats move through residential neighborhoods constantly, dropping flea eggs as they go. Your pet picks them up on a walk or in the backyard, carries them inside, and the cycle begins.

Homes with crawl spaces or older construction give fleas additional harborage. And Omaha’s pet-friendly culture — dog parks at Hefflinger and Hanscom, trails along the Keystone — means more exposure opportunities for your animals.

Our Flea Control Process

Flea control isn’t a one-shot deal. Effective treatment targets every life stage — adults, eggs, larvae, and pupae. Here’s how we handle it at Miller Pest Solutions:

Assessment. We start with a thorough evaluation of your home’s interior and exterior. We identify where flea activity is heaviest, locate harborage areas, and determine whether wildlife is contributing to the problem.

Interior treatment. We apply residual insecticides and insect growth regulators (IGRs) to carpeting, baseboards, upholstered furniture, and pet resting areas. The IGR is critical — it prevents eggs and larvae from maturing into biting adults, breaking the reproduction cycle.

Exterior treatment. We treat shaded areas around your home’s perimeter, under decks, along fence lines, and in mulch beds where flea larvae develop. This reduces reinfestation pressure from outside.

Follow-up. Flea pupae are protected inside cocoons that resist most insecticides. That’s why we schedule a follow-up treatment 2-3 weeks later to catch newly emerged adults before they can reproduce. Most infestations require two visits to fully resolve.

We also give you specific preparation steps — vacuuming protocols, pet treatment coordination, laundering instructions — that make our chemical application significantly more effective.

Why Choose Miller Pest Solutions
