Finding a cockroach in your Bellevue home is never just a one-roach problem. If you’re seeing them during the day or in open areas, the population hiding behind your walls is already significant. Roaches breed fast, spread bacteria, and trigger allergies — especially in kids.

Miller Pest Solutions has been eliminating cockroach infestations across the Omaha metro since 2001. We know how to identify the species, target the colony, and prevent them from coming back.

Signs of a Roach Infestation

Cockroaches are nocturnal. By the time you spot one in the kitchen, the problem is usually well established. Watch for these signs:

  • Droppings. Small, dark specks that look like coffee grounds or black pepper — typically found in cabinets, under sinks, and along baseboards. German roach droppings are tiny. American roach droppings are larger with ridged edges.
  • Musty odor. A heavy roach infestation produces a distinct, oily smell. If your kitchen or bathroom has an off smell you can’t trace, roaches could be the cause.
  • Egg casings (oothecae). These brown, capsule-shaped casings each hold dozens of eggs. Finding them behind appliances or in pantry corners means active breeding.
  • Daytime sightings. Roaches avoid light. Seeing one scurry across the counter during the day usually indicates overcrowding in their hiding spots — which means a large population.
  • Smear marks. Dark, irregular streaks along walls and floors near water sources. Roaches leave these as they travel established routes.

Why Roaches Are Common in Bellevue

Bellevue’s mix of older housing stock, apartment complexes near Offutt AFB, and newer subdivisions creates varied conditions for different roach species.

German cockroaches — the small, light-brown ones — are the most common indoor species in the area. They hitchhike in on grocery bags, delivery boxes, and used furniture. Multi-unit housing around the base and along Fort Crook Road sees heavy German roach pressure because the bugs travel between units through shared walls and plumbing.

American and Oriental cockroaches tend to live in sewer systems and storm drains. Bellevue’s older sewer infrastructure gives these larger species plenty of habitat, and they push into homes through floor drains and foundation cracks during heavy rain or extreme heat.

Nebraska’s humid summers provide exactly the warm, moist conditions roaches need to reproduce quickly. A single German roach female can produce over 300 offspring in her lifetime.

Our Roach Control Process

Effective roach control requires more than a can of spray. We use an integrated approach that targets every life stage.

Identification first. German roaches and American roaches require different strategies. We identify the species and assess the severity so the treatment plan actually fits the problem.

Gel bait application. For German roaches, professional-grade gel baits placed in cracks, crevices, and harborage areas are the most effective method. Roaches feed on the bait, return to the colony, and spread the active ingredient through contact and fecal transfer. This creates a cascade effect that collapses the colony from the inside.

Residual treatments. We apply targeted residual products to entry points, baseboards, and utility areas. For American and Oriental roaches, we treat exterior perimeters and address sewer entry points.

Follow-up visits. Roach infestations rarely resolve in a single treatment. We schedule follow-ups to monitor sticky traps, reapply bait, and verify the population is dropping. Most German roach infestations require 2-3 visits to fully resolve.

Prevention guidance. We’ll walk you through sanitation and exclusion steps that reduce harborage and cut off food sources. Small changes make a big difference in preventing reinfestation.
