Nobody wants to see a cockroach skitter across their kitchen floor. But for some Blair, Nebraska homeowners, it’s happening — and it’s more common than people admit. Roaches aren’t just gross. They contaminate food, trigger asthma and allergies, and spread bacteria wherever they go. And if you see one during the day, the population hiding in your walls, under appliances, and inside cabinets is much larger than you think.
Miller Pest Solutions has been eliminating roach infestations in the Omaha metro area since 2001. We use targeted treatments that work — not just surface sprays that scatter roaches to new hiding spots.
Signs of a Roach Infestation
Roaches are nocturnal experts at hiding. Here’s what gives them away:
- Seeing live roaches. Finding one roach — especially during the day — almost always means there are many more you’re not seeing. Roaches are most active at night, so daytime sightings indicate overcrowding in their hiding spots.
- Droppings. Small, dark, pepper-like specks (from smaller species like German cockroaches) or cylindrical pellets (from larger species) in cabinets, drawers, along baseboards, and behind appliances.
- Egg cases (oothecae). Brown, purse-shaped capsules about 1/4 to 1/2 inch long. German cockroaches carry them until just before hatching. Finding these means active reproduction.
- Musty odor. Roach infestations produce a distinct, oily smell. It’s faint with small populations but unmistakable as numbers grow.
- Smear marks. In areas with moisture, roaches leave dark, irregular smear marks on surfaces as they crawl along walls and countertops.
Why Roaches Show Up in Blair
German cockroaches — the most common indoor species — don’t survive Nebraska winters outside. They’re entirely dependent on human structures. They get into Blair homes through deliveries, grocery bags, used appliances, cardboard boxes, and sometimes from neighboring units in multi-family housing. Once established, they reproduce fast. A single German cockroach egg case contains 30-40 nymphs, and they can produce a new generation every couple of months.
American cockroaches and Oriental cockroaches are less common indoors in Blair but show up in basements, floor drains, and sewer-connected areas. Older homes with floor drains and sump pits are more vulnerable.
Blair’s mix of residential housing, including older homes and apartments, provides the kind of warm, humid environments roaches thrive in. Kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms — anywhere there’s warmth, water, and food.
Our Roach Control Process
assessment and identification. We determine which roach species you have and assess the severity. German cockroaches require a very different approach than American or Oriental cockroaches. We check kitchens, bathrooms, utility areas, and common harborage spots.
Targeted baiting. For German cockroaches, professional gel baits are the gold standard. We apply bait in cracks, crevices, hinges, under appliances, and inside wall voids where roaches actually live. Roaches eat the bait, return to their hiding spots, die, and other roaches feed on them — creating a chain reaction that hits the whole population.
Crack and crevice treatment. We apply residual products directly into the gaps, cracks, and voids where roaches harbor. This isn’t baseboard spraying — it’s precise, targeted application to the spots that matter.
Follow-up visits. Roach control — especially for German cockroaches — requires follow-up. Eggs hatch after initial treatment, and we need to hit the next generation before they mature. We schedule follow-ups to monitor progress and reapply as needed.
Sanitation recommendations. We’ll give you practical tips for reducing food and water sources that sustain roach populations. Fixing leaky faucets, sealing food containers, cleaning grease buildup — these changes accelerate results.
