Nobody wants to flip on the kitchen light and see cockroaches scatter. But it happens more often in La Vista than most people think. Roaches are masters at staying hidden — for every one you see, there could be dozens more behind walls, under appliances, and inside cabinets. They reproduce quickly, contaminate food, and trigger allergies and asthma, especially in children.
Miller Pest Solutions has been eliminating cockroach infestations across the Omaha metro since 2001. We don’t just knock down the ones you can see. We eliminate the population.
Signs of a cockroach infestation
Roaches are nocturnal, so visible signs often mean the problem is already well established:
- Seeing roaches at night. Turn on a light in the kitchen or bathroom after dark. If roaches scatter, you have an active infestation. Seeing them during the day is even worse — it means the population is large enough that they’re being pushed out of hiding.
- Droppings. German cockroach droppings look like black pepper or coffee grounds, found in drawers, along baseboards, and behind appliances. Larger species leave cylindrical droppings.
- Egg cases (oothecae). Small, dark brown capsules about the size of a dried bean. You’ll find them in sheltered spots — behind refrigerators, inside cabinets, near plumbing.
- Musty odor. A significant roach population produces a noticeable oily, musty smell. If your kitchen or bathroom has an odor you can’t explain, roaches could be the cause.
- Smear marks. In areas with moisture, roaches leave dark, irregular smear marks along walls and surfaces where they travel.
Why Roaches Are Common in La Vista
German cockroaches — the most common indoor species in Nebraska — don’t survive outdoors in our climate. They’re introduced into homes through grocery bags, cardboard boxes, used furniture, and deliveries. La Vista’s shopping areas and commercial corridors along 84th Street and Giles Road mean lots of goods moving in and out of the area.
Multi-family housing also plays a role. Apartment complexes and townhomes in La Vista — particularly older units — can struggle with roach issues that spread between units through shared walls and plumbing. One tenant’s problem becomes everyone’s problem fast. Even single-family homes along Park View Boulevard and throughout La Vista’s residential areas aren’t immune — all it takes is one grocery bag or Amazon box to introduce German cockroaches.
Nebraska winters actually make roach problems worse indoors. These pests need warmth and moisture, and heated homes with kitchens and bathrooms provide exactly that. There’s no seasonal break from German cockroaches — once they’re in, they breed year-round.
Our Roach Control Process
Roach control requires more than a can of spray. In fact, over-the-counter foggers and bombs can make the problem worse by scattering roaches into new areas of your home.
Assessment. We identify the species (German cockroach vs. American cockroach vs. Oriental cockroach — the treatment differs), locate harborage areas, and gauge the severity of the infestation.
Targeted bait and product application. Professional gel baits are the backbone of effective roach control. We apply bait in cracks, crevices, voids, and harborage areas where roaches hide and breed. Roaches consume the bait and carry it back to others, creating a cascade effect through the population.
Growth regulators. We use insect growth regulators (IGRs) to disrupt the roach reproductive cycle. This prevents nymphs from maturing and breeding, which collapses the population over time.
Follow-up treatments. Serious roach infestations usually require multiple visits. We monitor progress and reapply as needed until the population is eliminated.
Sanitation guidance. We’ll give you practical advice on reducing food and water sources that sustain roach populations — things like fixing leaky pipes, sealing food containers, addressing grease buildup behind stoves, and keeping recycling areas clean. Reducing these resources makes our chemical treatment even more effective and speeds up elimination.

German cockroaches go from egg to breeding adult in about 60 days. That means every two months, the population can multiply significantly. Waiting even a few weeks can turn a manageable situation into a major infestation that takes multiple treatments to resolve.
Roaches multiply fast. A few today becomes dozens next week and hundreds next month. Early treatment saves time, money, and stress.
