Roaches are one of the most challenging pest problems a homeowner or property manager can face. They reproduce fast, hide well, and develop resistance to pesticides when treatments are poorly applied. Omaha’s mix of older housing stock, humid summers, and dense apartment districts makes roach infestations a real and recurring problem — not just in neglected properties, but in well-maintained homes too.
Signs of a Roach Infestation
Roaches are mostly nocturnal, so you may not see them until an infestation is well established. Watch for these signs:
- Live or dead roaches — If you’re seeing roaches during daylight hours, that usually means the population has grown large enough that competition for hiding spots is forcing them out. That’s a serious infestation.
- Droppings — German roach droppings look like small black pepper flakes or dark smears along wall edges, inside cabinet hinges, under appliances, and around plumbing under sinks. American roach droppings are larger and cylindrical.
- Egg capsules (oothecae) — Brown, pill-shaped egg cases about 8–10mm long. German roaches carry them until just before hatching; American roaches deposit them in hidden locations. Finding one means more are likely nearby.
- Musty or oily odor — A heavy roach infestation produces a distinct, unpleasant smell. If a kitchen or bathroom has an unexplained stale, oily odor, roaches may be harboring behind appliances or inside wall voids.
- Greasy smear marks — Along baseboards and wall edges where roaches travel repeatedly, you may see dark grease-like smear marks from their bodies.
Why Roaches Are Common in Omaha
Omaha’s climate — hot, humid summers and cold winters — creates conditions that drive roaches indoors. German roaches, the most common indoor species in Omaha, thrive in warm, humid environments near food and water sources. Kitchens, bathrooms, and laundry rooms are primary targets.
Multi-unit housing is a significant factor. Apartments, duplexes, and older mixed-use buildings are common throughout central and north Omaha, and roaches move freely through shared plumbing walls, conduit pathways, and hallways. A roach problem in one unit rarely stays contained. Even if your unit is spotless, a neighbor’s infestation can become yours.
American roaches (sometimes called waterbugs) are more common in Omaha’s older commercial and industrial areas but do show up in residential basements and sewer-connected structures. They’re larger, faster, and prefer moist conditions near floor drains and utility areas.
Our Roach Control Process
Roach control done wrong makes the problem worse. Over-the-counter repellent sprays scatter roaches deeper into walls and adjacent units without eliminating the population. Effective control requires the right products applied in the right places — and that means gel baits, targeted crack-and-crevice treatments, and insect growth regulators, not just a can of spray.
We inspect harborage areas — under and behind appliances, inside cabinet voids, under sinks, along plumbing penetrations — to understand where the population is concentrated. German roach treatment relies heavily on bait placement in high-activity areas; the roaches take the bait back to the harborage, and population collapse follows. We apply bait formulations that are highly attractive to roaches and place them where roaches will actually encounter them, not just on open surfaces.
For larger infestations or multi-unit situations, follow-up treatments are typically necessary. We’ll tell you upfront if we think multiple visits will be needed and why. We also advise on sanitation and structural factors — eliminating harborage and food sources makes treatment significantly more effective and durable.

Roach infestations don’t improve on their own. German roaches can double their population every few weeks under good conditions. The sooner treatment starts, the easier it is to get under control.
