Roaches are resilient, fast-reproducing, and genuinely hard to eliminate without professional treatment. A few roaches in the kitchen today can turn into hundreds within weeks. They contaminate food, trigger allergies and asthma, and are notoriously difficult to treat with store-bought products because most over-the-counter solutions do nothing to the egg capsules. Miller Pest Solutions has the tools and experience to actually eliminate them — not just knock back the population temporarily.
Signs of a Roach Infestation
Roaches are nocturnal and prefer to stay hidden, but they leave plenty of evidence:
- Live roaches — Seeing roaches in daylight often indicates a large population — they’re being pushed out of hiding by overcrowding
- Droppings — Small, dark, pepper-like droppings in cabinets, under the sink, or along baseboards; larger species leave cylindrical droppings
- Egg capsules (oothecae) — Brown, pill-shaped cases attached to surfaces in dark areas; each contains 15–40 eggs depending on species
- Musty odor — A heavy, oily, unpleasant smell in affected areas is a reliable indicator of a significant infestation
- Smear marks — Brown irregular marks along walls and surfaces in areas with high moisture
- Shed skins — Roaches molt multiple times as they grow; shed exoskeletons accumulate near hiding spots
Why Roaches Are Common in Plattsmouth
German roaches — the most common interior species — spread through grocery bags, secondhand appliances, cardboard boxes, and moving equipment. They don’t come in from outside; they hitchhike. Once inside, they breed rapidly and hide in warm, moist areas like the space behind your refrigerator, under the dishwasher, and inside cabinet hinges.
American roaches (also called water bugs) are more common in basements, crawlspaces, and floor drains — especially in older Plattsmouth homes with aging plumbing. They come up from the sewer system and prefer dark, damp environments.
Our Roach Control Process
German roach treatment relies heavily on gel baiting placed in precise harborage locations — inside cabinets, under appliances, in wall voids — paired with insect growth regulators (IGRs) that prevent eggs and nymphs from reaching reproductive maturity. This approach is far more effective than broad spraying, which actually disperses roaches and can make infestations worse.
For American roaches and larger species, we address entry points, treat drains and crawlspaces, and apply residual products in harborage zones. We’ll also identify what’s attracting and harboring them and give you specific guidance on structural and sanitation steps that will support the treatment.
