  • Live roaches. Seeing even one cockroach during the day usually means the population is large enough that some are being pushed out of hiding spots. Nighttime sightings are common earlier in an infestation.
  • Droppings. Small, dark specks that look like ground pepper (German roaches) or cylindrical pellets (larger species). Found in cabinets, behind appliances, and along baseboards.
  • Egg cases (oothecae). Brown, capsule-shaped casings about a quarter-inch long. German roaches carry them until just before hatching. You might find empty cases in drawers, behind furniture, or inside pantries.
  • Musty odor. A heavy roach infestation produces a distinct, oily smell. If your kitchen or bathroom has an unexplained musty odor, roaches may be the cause.
  • Smear marks. In areas with moisture, roaches leave irregular brown streaks along walls and surfaces where they travel.

Why Roaches Show Up in Springfield

German cockroaches — the most common indoor species in Nebraska — are almost always introduced. They ride in on grocery bags, cardboard boxes, used appliances, and deliveries. Gel bait application. For German cockroaches, professional gel baits are the most effective tool. We apply them in cracks, crevices, hinges, behind outlets, under counters, and inside cabinets — all the tight spots where roaches hide and feed. The bait spreads through the population as roaches share food and contact each other.

Residual treatments. We apply non-repellent insecticides and insect growth regulators to harborage areas. Growth regulators prevent nymphs from maturing, breaking the reproductive cycle.

Exclusion and sanitation recommendations. We’ll point out entry points and conditions that attract roaches — gaps around pipes, missing door sweeps, moisture issues. Fixing these makes treatment more effective and longer-lasting.

Follow-up. German cockroach infestations typically require two to three treatments spaced two weeks apart. We monitor progress at each visit and adjust as needed.
