Signs of a Rodent Infestation

Rodents are nocturnal and prefer to stay hidden. But they leave plenty of evidence:

  • Droppings. Mouse droppings are small and dark, about the size of a grain of rice. Rat droppings are larger — up to 3/4 inch. Check along walls, inside cabinets, and near food storage areas.
  • Scratching or scurrying sounds. Especially at night. Rodents in walls, attics, or ceilings are often heard before they’re seen. If you hear something moving around after dark, you’ve probably got company.
  • Gnaw marks. Rodents chew constantly to keep their teeth worn down. Look for gnaw marks on food packaging, wood trim, wiring, and even plastic pipes. Chewed electrical wiring is a genuine fire hazard.
  • Grease marks along walls. Rats especially leave dark, oily rub marks along their regular travel paths — usually along baseboards and around entry points.
  • Nesting material. Shredded paper, insulation, fabric, or plant material gathered into a ball. Check attics, behind appliances, and in storage areas.

Why Rodents Are Common in Valley
