Bellevue homeowners know the drill. You flip on the basement light and there it is — a spider the size of a quarter hanging out in the corner like it pays rent. Maybe it’s a harmless wolf spider. Maybe it’s a brown recluse. Either way, you don’t want it there. And where there’s one, there are usually more.
Miller Pest Solutions has been handling spider problems across the Omaha metro — including Bellevue — since 2001. We know which species show up in this area, where they hide, and how to get rid of them for good.
Signs of a Spider Infestation
Spiders are sneaky. They prefer dark, undisturbed spaces, so a full-blown infestation can build before you even notice. Here’s what to watch for:
- Webs accumulating in corners, garages, and basements. Different species build different web styles — messy cobwebs in corners often point to common house spiders, while funnel-shaped webs in ground-level areas can indicate grass spiders or hobo spiders.
- Egg sacs. These small, silky pouches can contain hundreds of spiderlings. Finding even one means the population is about to multiply fast.
- Live spiders appearing regularly. Seeing one spider every few months is normal. Seeing them weekly — or daily — means you’ve got an established population.
- Other insect activity. Spiders follow their food. If you’ve got flies, ants, or other bugs inside your home, spiders will move in to hunt them.
- Shed skins. Spiders molt as they grow. Finding translucent exoskeletons around baseboards or window sills is a clear sign of ongoing activity.
Why Spiders Are Common in Bellevue
Bellevue sits right along the Missouri River bluffs, surrounded by mature trees, parks, and green space. Great for quality of life. Also great for spiders.
The humidity that rolls off the river creates perfect conditions for insects — and where insects thrive, spiders follow. Bellevue’s older neighborhoods near Offutt Air Force Base have plenty of established homes with basements, crawl spaces, and aging window seals that give spiders easy entry points.
Nebraska’s seasonal swings play a role too. Spiders push indoors every fall as temperatures drop. By the time you notice them in October, they’ve likely been setting up shop since late August. Spring and summer bring a fresh wave of outdoor species that wander inside through gaps in foundations and around utility lines.
New construction areas in southwest Bellevue disturb natural habitats, which also drives spiders toward nearby homes looking for shelter.
Our Spider Control Process
We don’t just spray and hope for the best. Our spider control program targets the problem at every level.
Exterior treatment. We apply a residual barrier around your home’s foundation, eaves, window frames, and door frames. This knocks down active spiders and creates a lethal zone that kills new ones trying to get inside. We also knock down visible webs and egg sacs — this eliminates the next generation before it hatches.
Interior treatment. For homes with interior activity, we treat baseboards, closets, utility rooms, and other harborage areas. We use targeted products that are tough on spiders but safe for your family and pets once dry.
Entry point reduction. We identify gaps around pipes, vents, windows, and doors where spiders are getting in. We’ll point these out so you can seal them, or we can address them as part of a broader pest-proofing plan.
Ongoing prevention. Spiders don’t quit after one treatment. Our quarterly service plans keep the barrier fresh and catch new activity before it becomes a problem. Most Bellevue customers on a regular plan see dramatic reductions within the first two visits.
