Spiders in your Blair, Nebraska home aren’t just creepy — some of them are dangerous. brown recluse spiders are present in eastern Nebraska, and their bites can cause serious tissue damage. Even non-venomous species like wolf spiders and common house spiders become a problem when they’re showing up regularly in bedrooms, basements, and living areas. Heavy spider activity also signals a bigger issue: if spiders are thriving, it’s because there’s a large prey insect population feeding them.

Miller Pest Solutions has been handling spider problems across the Omaha metro since 2001. We reduce spider populations and address the underlying insect issues that draw them in.

Signs of a Spider Infestation

Seeing the occasional spider isn’t unusual. But when it becomes a pattern, you’ve got a problem worth addressing:

  • Frequent spider sightings. Finding spiders regularly in the same areas — bathrooms, basements, garages, closets — means they’ve established themselves in your home. Multiple sightings per week is a strong indicator.
  • Webs accumulating in corners and along ceilings. Cobwebs in unused rooms, basements, garages, and crawl spaces. Some species (like brown recluse) don’t build conspicuous webs, so absence of webs doesn’t mean absence of spiders.
  • Egg sacs. Small silk pouches tucked into corners, behind furniture, or in storage areas. A single egg sac can contain hundreds of spiderlings.
  • Brown recluse indicators. If you’re finding medium-sized, tan to brown spiders with a violin-shaped marking on their back — especially in closets, boxes, shoes, or undisturbed storage — take it seriously. These spiders prefer dark, quiet spaces and can establish significant populations in homes.
  • Heavy insect activity. Lots of flies, gnats, ants, or other small insects in your home means plenty of food for spiders. Address the prey, and spider numbers drop.

Why Spiders Are Common in Blair

Blair sits along the Missouri River bluffs, with wooded areas, farmland, and river bottomland nearby. This diverse landscape supports tons of insects — and where insects thrive, spiders follow. Fall is especially bad, as cooling temperatures drive spiders indoors seeking warmth and prey.

Common species in the Blair area include wolf spiders (large, ground-dwelling hunters), common house spiders, cellar spiders (the long-legged ones in basements), and brown recluse spiders. Older homes with basements, crawl spaces, and plenty of cracks and gaps provide perfect spider habitat.

Brown recluse spiders are a legitimate concern in eastern Nebraska. They’re not aggressive, but they bite when accidentally pressed against skin — typically when putting on clothes or shoes that have been sitting in storage, or reaching into boxes. Homes that have them often have them in significant numbers because they reproduce well indoors.

Our Spider Control Process

assessment. We identify which spiders are in your home and assess conditions contributing to the problem. We check common harborage areas — basements, crawl spaces, garages, attics, closets, and along exterior walls.

Web removal and treatment. We knock down existing webs and apply residual products to areas where spiders travel and hide. Cracks, crevices, window frames, door frames, baseboards, and corners get targeted treatment.

Exterior perimeter treatment. A strong exterior barrier keeps spiders from entering in the first place. We treat around the foundation, windows, doors, eaves, and other entry points. This also reduces the prey insects that attract spiders.

Prey insect reduction. Solving a spider problem means solving a bug problem. Our general pest treatments knock down the flies, ants, and other insects that make your home attractive to spiders. Remove the food source and spider pressure drops dramatically.

Brown recluse protocol. If brown recluse spiders are confirmed, we implement a more intensive treatment plan that includes sticky trap monitoring, direct treatment of harborage areas, and follow-up assessments. These spiders are tougher to eliminate and require a systematic approach.
