- Damaged or hollow-sounding wood — Tap along baseboards, door frames, and window sills. If the wood sounds hollow or feels soft, termites may have eaten it from the inside out.
- Bubbling or peeling paint — Moisture from termite activity can cause paint to bubble or peel on interior walls, especially near the floor.
- Frass or discarded wings — Piles of tiny wings near windowsills or light fixtures after a swarm event. Subterranean termites don’t produce the wood-colored frass that drywood termites do, but discarded wings are a major red flag.
