Where are wood cockroaches found?

Wood cockroaches primarily reside outdoors, including in woodpiles, under debris, or under piles of leaves as well as rotted logs, tree stumps, hollow trees, and under loose bark of dead trees. They rarely make their way indoors.

What do wood cockroaches eat?

Wood roaches feed on decaying organic matter, including dead or rotting wood.

Are wood cockroaches dangerous?

Unlike American cockroaches and German roaches, wood cockroaches are harmless. They do not spread disease and will not damage houses or belongings.

Why do I have a wood cockroach infestation?

Wood cockroaches are an outdoor species but may wander inside by accident. For example, male wood roaches are attracted to light, so there’s the possibility they could fly through an open door or window.

How do I get rid of wood cockroaches?

If you’ve discovered cockroaches in your home, it is best to contact a licensed pest control company for help. While wood roaches are more of a nuisance than anything else, there is a possibility you have a different type of roach infesting.

At Miller Pest & Termite, we’ve been eliminating cockroaches for over 20 years; contact us today if you’re concerned about roaches in your home or business.

How can I prevent a wood roach problem?

To prevent wood cockroaches from infesting your property, consider implementing these tips:

  • Clear plant debris from around your home
  • Remove rotting or dead wood, including tree stumps and logs
  • Haul away brush piles
  • Move wood piles several feet away from the structure
  • Keep exterior lights off at night or swap white halogen/fluorescent bulbs to yellow bug lights
  • Eliminate standing water
  • Close doors and windows when not in use
